本杰明·厄尔·尼尔森（Benjamin Earl Nelson，1938年9月28日—2015年4月30日，艺名：Ben E. King），1938年9月28日出生于美国北卡罗来纳州亨德森市，9岁的时候搬到了纽约的Harlem。

1959年，该团取代了原先早在1953年就已经成立的“The Drifters”，成为新的“The Drifters”合唱团，并且随即以《There Goes My Baby》和《Save the Last Dance for Me》轰动歌坛。

1960 年五月，班伊金决定展开个人生涯，宣告退出。

独立之后的班伊金，首先以秉持着 “The Drifters”合唱团拉丁色彩和品质的 《Spanish Harlem 》受到了肯定，接着就推出了让他扬名立万《Stand By Me》。 这首歌其实是根据灵歌《 Lord Stand By Me 》加以改编而重新创作的，获得了全美排行的第四名。这同时也是他个人生涯成绩最好的一首单曲。

到了1960年代的末期，他就逐渐跟主流市场越行越远了。但是，命运之神并没有让他就此被遗忘。

1986年，由于电影《伴我同行》采用了他的这首旧作当作同名的主题歌，使得他再度的受到了注意，甚至还因而夺下了英国排行的冠军。

自20世纪60年代后期，他一直居住于新泽西州蒂内克市；

目前，他活跃于基金慈善会活动。

在2010年11月11日，他在拉丁格莱美奖上与Prince Royce演唱了《Stand By Me》。

在2013年，他仍然活跃，完成英国之旅。
